In the near future, a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) called Sword Art Online has been released where players control their avatars with their bodies using a piece of technology called Nerve Gear. One day, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. However, if they die in the game, they die in real life. Their struggle for survival starts now...The solo player: Kirito, who had the luck-of-the-draw to play the beta version, was imprisoned along with many other players of «Sword Art Online» (SAO) inside of a game, unable to logout; the only way to live is to win. Death in-game means death in the real world, due to tampering with the Nerve Gear; the console that simulates the in-game character controls by redirecting brain signals. Escaping the death game requires the defeat of the final boss on the top floor, two years later; out of the original 10,000 players at the start, only 6000 remain and 26 floors left to clear.
